Charade Maniacs: Akase Kyoya Route

Language Played: Japanese

Platform: PSVita, Nintendo Switch

Whew! Off to my first post on here! I am so excited to make this, Akase is one of my favourite love interests in Charade Maniacs so far. I can't wait to introduce you guys to this lovely shounen-protagonist-esque love interest!

SPOILER-FREE SECTION

Akase is a postive, energetic young man who isn't the brightest but makes up with his charisma. He acts like the group's leader and some characters look up to him, such as our MC, Hiyori Sena. Additionally, he's the poster boy of this game. However, is that just a front? Could there be something he is hiding?

Spoilers aside, Akase is such a caring guy who cheers up Sena whenever she feels down. I can't say too much as the game prides itself in being a mystery. Play the game to find out more about him!

SPOILER-FREE SECTION ENDS

There are just so many cute scenes between Akase and Sena! The fact that he trusts her wholeheartedly, even with her doubting him sometimes, speaks a lot about his character. He does have his moments, such as saying that Sena should be careful just because she's a girl, but those moments are far and few in between.

His methods of cheering her up is so cute! Also there are just so many fluffy moments between them: the park trip with water, the bedtime stories, and him catching her in the drama is just...AHHHH!

Also, I enjoyed the fact that not only was he her hero, she was his as well. When he broke down from remembering the truth of his sisters, she was quick to help him by lifting his spirits, the thing he did for her when she lost her voice and watched her friend's dead end scene. The callback is very nice and I was glad that the writers incorporated that.

However, the moments were just very slow. Most of the dramatic scenes between him and Sena about his parents being sponsors and his sisters were only revealed in the second half of his route and close to the ending. Despite this, I didn't mind it too much as Akase is so cute!

The ending scene where he sacrifices himself for everyone is very reminiscent of a true hero and while it did feel very sad I was happy with this writing choice. At least he came back in the end! (...although Tomose saying Akase betrayed Sena by sacrificing himself and that Tomose himself can be her lover is just...)

Conclusion

While Akase isn't my favourite love interest in all otome, he is such a good first route and it sets a great tone for the rest of the game. If you're a fan of energetic, almost genki guys like me Akase is the one for you!

Character Ranking: S-Tier (A best boy, just not one of the best)
